falk records will be releasing ‘spaces’ from icelandic experimental producer aaiieenn this august. aaiieenn is the solo project of electronic musician hallmar gauti halldórsson. halldórsson first came to music though being a mover and shaker in iceland’s punk and hardcore scene where he was the “harsh noise guy” with local band distill the world. with aaiieenn however, halldórsson moved away from the guitars and screaming to a fully electronic world of experimental synth music and gorging on the mathematical possibilities and expanses of arpeggio/sequencer driven ambient music. ‘calab-yau’ and ‘continuous property 1’ drip shards of pure crystalline sound into deep crevasses as harmonic droplets ping of gleaming surfaces coated with spongiform bass. the light and effervescent ‘euclidean’ evokes classic ambient works aphex twin, while ‘manifold’ is more direct with a muscular and sturdy bassline. spaces closes with the fluttering and lush ambient sounds of ‘zariksi’ that are carried into the skies by a pulsing and gliding techno beat.

needwant welcome berlin duo kim brown back into the fold with the stellar pleasuredome continuum. comprised of two dynamic breakbeat cuts to sink into and some incredible remixes from earth boys (lets play house) and kemback (omena/futureboogie). helical scan comes straight from the berlin 5am scene with raw breakbeat production and huge hitting pads and rolling synths. whilst the uniquely titled ceramic unicorns is anything but fluffy and cuddly. the pulsating hi-hat, lofi percussion and cosmic chords take you to another level. kim brown is ji-hun kim & julian braun, local heroes on the berlin club scene and rising producers with previous releases on just another beat, retreat, rivulet, rimini, freerange, fauxpas musik, film and permanent vacation. over the past ten years the needwant mantra has been to push the very best in new talent, having provided the platform for the likes of kiwi, the mekanism, maxxi soundsystem, the revenge and many more.

austin based pop artist lou rebecca makes a captivating debut with her stellar self-titled ep. born and raised in paris, lou’s music is delicately delivered in both english and her native french with a natural grace and unmistakable charm. lou’s approach to songwriting and performance is riveting from start to finish and has been a huge presence in the dense local synth scene for several years. now her unique brand of electronic pop has officially arrived, polished and teeming with personality. the vinyl ep included a download code.

the latest release on francis harris scissor & thread is another exercise in subtlety and restraint, brought to us by the emerging talents of nadia khan. with little known about the artist, this release lets the sublime music do the talking. title track ‘in gleam is a beautifully evocative drift into ambient textures - rising pads and occasion bass tones combine to set an exquisite scene. ‘local visit is a collaboration with label boss francis harris, and features some of the trademark submerged rhythm and textures the label has become known for, unfolding its deep structures over the course of the track. ‘restless sees label regular alex albrecht aka melquíades (whose previous ep on s&t was received warmly) provide the last bells remix - again muted tones and rhythmic complexity glide under ethereal piano fragments and slowly evolving pad washes. ‘sorting through finds its groove early, a deadened kick unfolds into an urgent percussion creating a thick atmosphere of melancholia. ‘sunburnt rounds out the physical release - ending how it started - with dreamy, smudged tones, and warm pads.

the sixth release from solkyss is a real smorgasbord with influences from all over sweden. edvin wikner, head chef and local marathon dancer, serves us an original production accompanied by a collaboration with malmo-based per hammer. trauma tribe celebrates their shared love of extended morning sets—a passion ultimately manifested at emmabodafestivalen two years ago when they broke swedens record of the longest dj set to date, playing for 24 hours straight. the original kai saa comes with an outstanding remix from no other than arkajo.

this is a rare gem of a record from fantastic soul band the soul kids stemming from the democratic republic of congo, including covers of james brown & the mighty flames hit singles -lickin stick- (1968), -papa s got a brand new bag- (1965), wilson pickett’s -hey jude- and a french vocal version of otis redding’s soul hit -respect -. this amazing young band, which released only four 7inch singles and one album, is a great example of the influence of soul music and french pop bridging to the new afro soul scene that the musicians of kinshasa were involved in during the time of post-independence. ngoma was one of the first record labels intent on providing local artists recordings from both sides of the congo river to the people of the drc and west africa. created in 1948 by a greek man by the name of nicolas jeronimidis, the ngoma label was active through 1968, pressed in france until 1971, with a tremendous catalogue, including this historical and essential soul masterpiece!

tbilisi stalwart hamasuki opens up the a-side with his synth-heavy, vocal-laden track “you as ronnie,” a cosmic trance-tinged epic sure to move the spellbound late-nightfloor. following in the a2 slot is up-and- coming bristolian derijk with “the realm,” a true deep house belter nodding heavily to the piano anthems of the early 90’s – heavy hitting kicks and meltingly melodic keys abound. and last but very much not least is brooklyn local m. vaughan, taking the b-side all to himself with “jupiter ballad,” a layered masterpiece of haunting vocals, fluttering percussion and muddy basslines.

rough and ready machine tracks from brazilian producer/december collaborator innsyter (la club resource). cyn002 picks up where coletivo vandalismo left off, channeling that same wild, diy bedroom studio spirit across nine individual recordings. opening with sprawling synth motifs fighting against a steady rhythm track, desintegrado sounds like an industrial dub punk trying to channel early cluster or moebius and strangely succeeding. the rest of the lp treats us to vaguely drexciyan, subaquatic electro (bries) and twisted lo-fi minimalism with bonus eerie monologue samples (superficial love). the one recurring theme on magnetic healing is innsyter s clear love for mournful, post-punk inspired melodies. it comes across loud and clear on almost every track yet never sounds tired. things eventually draw to a close with the hopelessly romantic new wave instrumental forest shaman - a short ballad for all those weary-eyed party-goers who stuck around til the sun came up!

bar records is the lovechild of bar rotterdam, a club founded in 2013. bar records will release a variety of music linked to the club, by people that are regularly playing in the laid back colorful space that is bar. we are excited to announce the first release with french label owner of macadam mambo, sacha mambo, who made us some trippy originals, and local fader (from borneo). he created a trancy banger aswell as a more dreamy house track.

kump is delighted to release the first ep by hlm38 (ou hlm38’s first ep), the naughty half of duo ricco and member of the notte brigante crew from lyon. the three original tracks, a mix of ethnic looting and industrial racket in slow motion, feel like steel wrapped in turkish delight. front de cadeaux’s take on “illicite cong” is reminiscent of an erotic rave flavoured with oriental spices. last but not least, kris baha slices up “exit” like a tablier de sapeur (local lyonnais dish) served on a julienne of syncopated samples and noisy beats.

almost a decade after debuting the event series, audiotheque releases its first ep, including three tracks by various local artists. the first one, mikes jam, comes by berns new power duo frank spirit. it is a puristic, full analogue house jam, finalized on mike huckabys personal request. rbma graduate cclinic joins for a2. talk silver is a groovy house track which stands out for its prominent baseline and the inclusion of balearic and nordic elements. long-time audiotheque resident dj robel rounds out the record. fasiga is straight and clear, yet impulsive and fun.

poolside began as a recording project in a converted los angeles backyard pool house in early 2011, producing sunny tracks of subaquatic indie dance music in this makeshift recording studio. surfacing first in the form of a youtube video for the catchy track do you believe? poolside were soon gaining local and national attention, with djs like james murphy of lcd soundsystem, techno legend derrick may, and disco don todd terje spinning these tracks at events and a growing online following. throughout 2011 poolside continued making waves with a sound called daytime disco through tracks like their cover of neil youngs harvest moon and original tunes. in 2012 poolside worked on a remix for longtime disco punks the rapture and held fans over with a new single and video for a song called slow down as they prepared to release their debut album. that album, pacific standard time, was self-released in july of 2012. after the albums release, remixes for artists like matthew dear, little dragon and fools gold soon followed, as well as rehearsing and touring with a live band and doing dj sets around the world. as thoughts turned to a second album, poolside went on ice for a year to regroup, beginning to work in earnest on another album in the fall of 2016. while still revolving around the sunny, laid-back disco sound of pst, these sessions yielded the additions of up-tempo dance songs and more guitars, and generally more fleshed-out arrangements. poolside surprise released their second album heat in 2017. poolside have over 1.5 million monthly listeners on spotify and have fans all over the world. they are currently on tour as a live band.

the first studio barnhus compilation, studio barnhus volym 1, is coming out at the end of august.
the 19-track release will feature music from the stockholm label s three founders—axel boman, kornél kovács, petter nordkvist—plus various associates, ranging from local newcomers to superstar friends of the label like dj koze, john talabot and superpitcher.

refreshingly new oldskool techno tracks by bornek nowec, a project by a rotterdam based dj/producer known for his long tied connections with the local techno scene. this release is the first outing from his large archive of techno tracks produced over the years. 4 cuts full of character that reminds us of the long nights at the nightown basement in the 90 s where he was dj ing with guys such as dj t!m aka frame six and paul du lac.

the music on this ep was conceived in china, between 1989 and 1993. the original tracks were mixed to dat in real time, in a small neighbour-proof studio inside my apartment in macau, a 19th floor with a view to the hurricanes. there’s a small, unexpected or improbable story behind each track, some little magic fused with the local atmosphere, certainly guaranteeing their lasting authenticity 25 years later.

south london label and party series troy town is proud to present the first release in 3 years from warren brown aka wbeeza, insanely talented south london producer and 1st generation pioneer of what has become affectionately known in dance music as the peckham sound . djs, producers and musicians such as henry wu, bradley zero and chaos in the cbd have added to the wealth of a deeply musical community but it was the likes of brown and another se15 local, el-prevost, who first put the area on the dance music map. although he s resistant to using the word house too often about his music, the swing nods to detroit and chicago while the links to friends and collaborators, delano smith, mike agent x clark and scott grooves are clear. progressing through a musical heritage that has seen him produce across grime, hip-hop, drum n bass and techno but it s his signature low slung, heavy-on-groove and atmosphere productions that have garnered the respect of peers and critics whilst his popular and energetic live sets have seen him tour extensively around the world for the past 8 years. this 3-track ep covers a variety of moods and situations. opening with the od, a heady march to peak time on the dancefloor which has featured heavily in live sets over the last 2 years. the bassline bubbles tantalisingly as it edges through a kinetic, digital riff that sticks with you long after the lights go up. grove park is so low slung that the snare sounds like it might fall out of sync at any moment while the lead synth leads you on a drunk walk home, at times holding it s line before stumbling over a pitch bend and veering to find its balance. bizzle boogie is equal parts gritty, midwest-influenced bounce track and shimmering eyes closed rave moments.

tivoli trax started as a multiplex series paying tribute to local artists connected to kongs mantra night club, while it was based in copenhagens tivoli gardens. the first 1996 ep was followed in 97 by vol. 2 and finally by a 12 track cd compilation in 98. in 2018 we are bringing back this iconic tribute to amazing copenhagen based producers with tivoli trax vol. 3!

detroit s inner city, one of the most influential dance acts of all time celebrated their 30th anniversary starting with a memorial day live show on the main stage of detroit’s movement festival this year. formed in 1987 by record producer, composer and international dj kevin saunderson and vocalist paris grey, inner city are best known for their early crossover hits “big fun” and “good life”. further successes saw the group topping the us billboard dance chart five times and securing nine top 40 hits on the uk singles chart.this 30th anniversary will mark a new chapter for inner city, one which sees kevin saunderson now joined by his son and creative protégé dantiez as a full-time member. new material and a live show will soon follow, featuring a variety of musical collaborators and vocalists. movement festival will set the stage for inner city’s new era, with a show formation featuring grammy winner and original inner city bandleader dennis white and kevin saunderson’s long-time collaborator tommy onyx alongside local talent and vocal sensation, steffanie christi’an. in kevin’s own words: “a true family and new sound for a new generation”. with over three decades in the game under inner city’s wing, with a renewed commitment to live performances featuring a strong family core, and two generations of saunderson men in the studio – inner city are poised to enjoy the good life as much today as they did in 1987 and this is entirely evident on the group s latest offering heavy . boasting a stellar edit from detroit techno luminary and inner city collaborator carl craig, heavy is a fresh taste of what s to come from this legendary outfit. essential detroit techno.

n our extremely talented artist pool we have the luxury of being able to work with local icelandic talent and for our 6th instalment in the lagaffe series we managed cook up a long awaited collaboration with a close friend and producer intr0beatz. intr0beatz has been known in the local music scene for quite some time and became one of the most iconic hip hop producers in iceland with the group forgotten lores. after the scene evolved and took changes intr0beatz reinvented himself as a house music producer. with intr0beatz you never go wrong. a long time hip-hop producer went housey on us, and he got the groove. house and old school hip-hop have a lot in common sampling and chopping old disco/soul tracks is the foundation of both. so this came naturally for him. the four-tracker includes the tracks dumpin (a1), mystery ride (a2), tapas (b1) and desco (b2).

nz import. 12inch with printed deluxe sleeve, plus lovely 2 sided full size photo inserfor its second release, strangelove resurrects two cuts from the australian cult synth pop duo, arvos, much-mythologised 1984 album luna. having spent time in europe and with heads & hearts full of the continents synth-pop movements, deborah gray and roy nicolson each returned down-under to discover a doggedly rock orientated landscape. finding solace in roys studio and inspired by their musical o.e.s, the arvo concept was formed and an album took shape. a glamorous visual/electronic opus, major label misjudgment and local bewilderment left luna to unjustly slip under the radar. rescued here, bikini channels an ipanema electronic vibe, nostalgically recalling antipodean beach culture while the synthetic undercurrents of so deep reflect on the nature of our dreams. also presented is a reimagined so deep instrumental from australias synth pop scholar-in-chief hysteric, while french m.o.t.m. shelter tailors bikini into an excursion version.

to conclude the unsung and defeated series we turned our attention to the distopic wave group wavering hands. the duo comes from bern and zurich, and this is their first vinyl release. the use of real drums, guitars and vocals is an unusual field for us, nevertheless, as it is clear now, we have shown no fear in going wherever our interest take us. and this time is pure new wave, kraut rock inspired music. a perfect ending for this series of unsung and defeated local heroes.

benjamin vigneron, also known as vronsky, was born in 1991 in aix-en-provence, france. as a teenager, drawn simultaneously to visual arts, cinema and music production, he made his first contact with techno by working for a local club as a graphic designer. during his 20s, while living between montreal, canada and marseille, france, it was revealed to benjamin he suffered from a heavy bipolar disorder. as a reaction, he started losing himself in free parties and increasingly dangerous habits. gradually learning to love himself despite his flaws, he kicked his risk-taking after he realized the love of music prevailed over anything else. equipped with a strong desire to share his vision despite not being able to perform as a dj, benjamin started a youtube channel and a collective named listening blue.

the very first release of 2018 from eureka!, is the well known parisian sampling master s3a (sampling as an art) with his perfect definition between underground quality emotional house music and dancefloor efficiency. he released from lazare house records, hold youth, concrete music, local talk, phonogramme and faces and with his background culture based on a solid knowledge of house music, soul, funk made him one of the most promising house artist of the french scene. mountain charr contains 3 tracks in completely different styles. doop doop is definitely a sound of s3a, with characteristic vocal cut up by adding powerful horn section and melodic piano loop. emotional m1 is classic yet warm and cosy low deep groove track that is playable regardless of a time or place, from lounge to dancefloor. to complete the package we have denials , a more down tempo offering, but its melody is fascinating and yes, sexy. this ep definitely brings you his predominant sense of sampling.

for our next excursion, we’re off to the library. in search of library records that is - you know the type, the crazy rare records used for soundtracks and such and such. we have a sick selection of synthed-up beats and pieces chopped together by one earl jeffers, making the most out of his international library digging card* (*not a real thing).
for those that don’t know, cardiff’s earl jeffers is one half of darkhouse family, regular family at our sister label, first word, on which they released their debut album “the offering” late last year. earl is a prolific producer in his own right, also releasing over the years under the aliases chesus and metabeats on labels like mcde, fat city and local talk, collaborating with artists like byron the aquarius, action bronson and kamaal williams / henry wu, turning his hand ably to house, hip hop, jungle, jazz and more. all this in addition to running his own label, mélange records.
a dedicated digger and record collector first and foremost, earl has provided us with a quadruple set of heavyweight stuttery sci-fi boom bap. in earl’s words: “this record was mostly inspired by my penchant for the more electronic / synthesized jams, mostly replayed from the original compositions then thrust in to 2028 and beyond….”

following hot on the heels of “digging beyond the crates”, the genre-agnostic double lp from swedish dj and local talk label boss mad mats, bbe are delighted to present this strictly limited 12” ep featuring three exclusive cuts, previously only available on digital and cd versions of the album.

after the label was put on hold for many years, there was no doubt, that lory d was up to the task of reanimating the sleeping beauty of seilscheibenpfeiler schallplatten berlin. t he italian techno producer deliveres a stunning ep for catalogue number sspb001. with its driving acid sounds, sublimed by raw percussions and hypnotic rhythms, this ep definitely is one for the darker parts of the night. last but not least it also features an edit of berlin local marcel dettmann, a man that doesn?t need no further introduction. a big bang that makes sure that the next release won?t take another 24 years...!

“a dreaming island” is an elegy to hedonistic isle living , drifting in and out through 6 balearic-tinged varieties all referencing various styles of early to late 90’s house music & new age tropes.
on the a side, you’ve got a prelude of sorts in “a storm” followed by the panpipe delirium of “organ of evening calm” while we signal halftime with the breaks’n’bouncey moves of “a dreaming island”.
b side gets trent-y with the beautiful “mermaid dive”, then gets heart wrenching thru the midi guitar shredding of “awake my friend” and sails away with the conclusion “a sea”.

beneath the still waters of lonely sound there lays the ruins of howland abbey, its 3000lb bell still hanging in the belfry, only swayed by the currents of the regular tides across the estuary, over 100 years since it was rang by the order of carthusian monks who lived in the nearby priory. at the turn of the last century during a heavy storm the abbey was plundered by an unknown gang of marauders, as they left on horseback carrying with them all the gold from the abbey the sea defences around lonely sound were breached, flooding the abbey, priory and the surrounding land, the monks ran for dry land as they watched their beloved bell tower disappear beneath the rising waters, unable to chase the thieves, cut off as the water rose around them. some locals say these ransackers were in league with the elements, some say they had just intentionally damaged the sea defences before making their raid. local folk-law claims that the morning bells of the abbey can be heard ring out from beneath the murky waters of the sound every year on the anniversary of the great storm, ringing the peel that was never rung.

what should have been a quick process has taken a bit longer than we hoped, but thats the way of handcrafted products, be they ginger beer or sourdough bread, and like the bread, the vinyl is currently cooling down to ensure an undisturbed, top quality product. np004 contains two tracks, cunningly devised in yorkshire, reflecting the area s no nonsense attitude and warmth. the final touches of mastering, have been added once again by the highly trained ears of moog expert dr spaventi. this continues to give us a very important international dimension to what is still a local artisanal product. specially formulated to make you dance and give you something a little extra, we ve switched to stealth black paper sleeves for this release, and where cutting engineer failed with inscriptions, as can be their wont, we ve lovingly re-designed the label to incorporate details of the free gift we re providing

300 hand numbered copies with added insert. on the 17th of june 1976, a large crowd of young south africans marched through the streets of downtown johannesburg. the protest was an outpouring of public disgust at the recent actions of the apartheid government and its racist police force who, just the day before, had violently quashed an uprising of black school children in soweto who were protesting the humiliating enforcement of afrikaans in their schools. in the process, they shot dead a boy called hector pieterson. he was 12 years old. the harrowing photo of umbiswa makhubo carrying hector s body through the dusty streets of soweto, taken by a local journalist that day, spelt the beginning of the end of apartheid. the world now had a view into what was really happening under the racist national party.

electronic music label sheik n beik announces its new release snbv013, an ep called daisy cutter by jem. this ep is the third release in their series aimed at celebrating the diversity and history of new york and its boroughs. as sheik n beik s hometown and source of constant inspiration, the label focuses on spotlighting and paying homage to the five boroughs of new york including manhattan, queens, brooklyn, staten island and the bronx. each borough s flag is given a modern and colorful twist via the cover art and design of each outer jacket. the first release in the series, manhattan, featured local nyc hero and co-founder of voodoo down records n conduit, and the second, kathisma resident mr. dello s vaadhoo ep. the new ep from jem, dedicated to the bronx, opens up with title track daisy cutter, which directly sets the tone of the release with a straightforward, dynamic techno, elevated by an eerie, dark atmosphere. it goes on with neb, a downtempo second track with a lighter tone that progressively gets back to the initial mysterious mood and capriciously brightens it with warmer back-and-forth sounds. next on the 12- is semiotic, a third track structured by a clever balance of deconstructed rhythms and sparse acid and synth melodies in the continuity of the lighter, warmer mood previously built up. the ep ends with temple, with a more aggressive accent animated by several lighter melodic layers and a stifled background bass.

sami baha is a turkish producer based in south east london. his music was introduced to the world via his 2016 ep “mavericks” (planet mu), recorded while he was moving from istanbul to london where he’s now been living the last 3 years. sami got into producing through being a rapper himself, working with local rappers in turkey and producing beats for them, before setting his sights outside the country.
while his first record was focused around a more familiar trap based hiphop sound, “free for all” expands its range into more unfamiliar territory and also brings his production into focus by featuring a number of mcs from all corners of the globe: uk drill squad 67’s dimzy, stockholm’s yung lean and chicago rapper and singer dj nate (aka flexxbabii) who’s previously recorded on planet mu as a footwork producer. the record also features the rowdy sing-song of egyptian mcs dawsha and abanob from cairo whom sami met while on tour in egypt.
